Is cosmetic dentistry worth it?

The field of cosmetic dentistry is fast becoming the most popular form of dentistry throughout Australia

Dr Anand and his team get asked the question ‘is cosmetic dentistry worth it’, quite regularly in the Extreme Dentistry office. Dr Anand has put together a helpful blog for his patients.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

The short answer is, cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental treatment that will improve the aesthetics of a patient’s teeth, gums, bite or smile.

Cosmetic dentistry from Extreme Dentistry is focused on the enhancement of a patient’s smile; however, the ultimate goal is to create a natural looking smile to match their chronological age.

Hi-tech advancements in natural-looking, tooth-coloured dental materials has seen a jump in the popularity of cosmetic dental treatments in patients of all ages. With the treatments now being more durable, predictable and simpler than in recent years, Dr Anand can preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.

CEREC same day restorations

Dr Anand has incorporated CEREC® technology, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This technology makes the usually long job of creating porcelain restorations simple, fast and easy to place.

The CEREC® system assesses your oral health and will take a 3D scan of your mouth with an intraoral camera. The image will be placed on a computer screen and show you the 3D model of your teeth that need treatment.

The machine will go to work creating your restoration, such as a dental crown or bridge, and Dr Anand will then bond the new porcelain restoration to the surface of the tooth, that same day.

Gummy smile treatment

A gummy smile is characterised when the ratio of your lips, gums and teeth is out of sync. Either too much tooth is showing, or not enough.

To counteract this, Extreme Dentistry can accurately contour your gums to show healthy, long teeth and if too much gum is showing, a gum lift will be performed.

White Fillings

Traditionally, amalgam or silver fillings were used to fill holes and decay in teeth. Technology has advanced, and Dr Anand now uses more aesthetically pleasing white fillings.

Made from a composite resin material, white fillings are colour matched to the exact shade of your tooth enamel, restoring your teeth and creating a flawless smile.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made coverings placed over the front of teeth to correct problems such as gaps, short teeth or severe discolouration.

Porcelain veneers only require a small amount of preparation to your tooth enamel meaning they are a quick and easy process that can give immediate, and dramatic results.

Veneers are ideal for camouflaging:

  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Gaps
  • Damaged teeth
  • Discolouration
  • Crooked teeth
